Richard was born in Nove Zanky, Slovakia and was noted from a very early age as a gifted artist. He gained local notice painting commissioned portraits including pets and family portraits. His love for nature and the fine details of light, form and textures found in the natural world sparked a lifelong interest in capturing the true vibrancy of nature using oils on canvas.
Richard came to Canada in 1999 on a commission to paint wildlife in Canada for Mill Pond Press. Travelling and camping from province to province he quickly realized that the natural beauty of Canada's landscapes and wildlife were a perfect fit, and the textures and detail afforded in the medium of oils have led to his unique qualities of depth, shadows, and sparkling light. Richard typically spends at least one month per painting to achieve the incredible and always one of a kind quality seen in his world renowned oil paintings.
Richard's unique style in fine art oil painting have led to internationally recognized success as a leading fine artist. His instantly recognizable style stands alone, and his oil paintings have been shown and sold in galleries around the world. Richard became a Canadian citizen in 2006, and continues to explore the natural beauty found here hiking and flying in his ultra-light plane looking for the perfect subject and lighting for his next painting. He lives with his wife in Courtenay, British Columbia known for some of the most dramatic natural landscapes and diverse wildlife in the world.
